In spite of wet and windy weather most of this week, roofers have managed to make progress. The balcony next to the tower has been covered, as has the dormer above the retail area. The remaining roof timbers above the object store have been installed and large areas of the main roof have had slates fitted.

Internally, the partitioning is complete on the ground and first floors and work has now started on the second floor.

Underfloor heating started to be installed on the first floor. First, a layer of thin foam sheet, followed by thick insulation boards, a layer of plastic sheeting and, finally, the pipework for the heating water. This will be covered by a layer of concrete screed.

Additionally, within the mine tunnels, Tolent have installed a new roof on the Scirocco fan tower and begun replacing the roof on the building which previously housed our horse-drawn wooden ambulance, which will house changing themed- as well as visiting exhibitions.

Following the announcement this week that the new museum will be called Land of Iron, how good do these signs look? They were produced by local firm Loftus Large Format.
