Exciting progress this week as the new roof started to be installed. The Tom Leonard Gallery now has a slated roof again and the lower reception/retail area roof is felted and ready to be slated next week.

Meanwhile, the facing brickwork is largely completed to the first floor and the bricklayers have started on the second floor gable ends.

The prefabricated roof trusses for the object store have been delivered and one has been installed to allow its gable-end to be built.

The fire-safe archive room is completed and its 225mm thick concrete "lid" has been poured.

Openings for the Vellux rooflights have now all been created.

Electrical works have progressed with most of the cable trays now in place. Ventilation ducting has been fitted in the exhibition room along with water supply and waste pipes.

Next week will see more of the new final roof slates being installed. Internally, electrical and mechanical fitting and completion of the block- and brickwork gable-ends.
