Join us at Land of Iron as we welcome Jonathan Wallis, Cultural Heritage Curator at the National Trust, as he delivers a talk about the life of Ruth Pennyman of Ormesby Hall. Ruth Pennyman (1893-1983) was well known for her theatre work, and with her husband, Jim, for her social work in Cleveland during the Depression of the 1930s. However it is probably less well known that she was also an artist and book illustrator and writer of both prose and poetry. She travelled to Spain during the Spanish Civil War and organised the evacuation of many Basque children to Guisborough. At this talk, Jonathan will explore her life, work and interests.
