The opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway on the morning of the 27th of September 1825 marked the birth of modern railways.
Built by George Stephenson, this twenty-six mile long line in the north east of England was a significant milestone, and the beginning of a railway network that would eventually span the world.

Featuring the latest research and interviews with experts, the film tells the comprehensive story of the railway that delivered the modern world.
