Finding wood engravings of steelmaking processes by an unknown female artist called Viva Talbot in a local archive almost twenty years ago, Joan Heggie’s research has gathered evidence of Viva’s other artistic outputs, her connection to Teesside’s iron and steel industry and pieced together her wider life story.
Despite no formal art training, Viva produced hundreds of wood engravings over her lifetime, with her ‘Steelmaking’ images being a unique representation of a global industry. Join local historian Dr Joan Heggie to hear more about this fascinating artist and her contribution to Teesside’s industrial heritage.
